Inspiring and timeless messages

to the Harari Youth in Diaspora

Relaying Sheik Ahmed Abulahi’s AMANA

Written by Nesub Abdi

Found it educative, inspiring and motivating. Truly, Sheik Ahmad Abdulahi was great Islamic scholar with intentions of pleasing Allah, and teaching ISLAM to wider and diverse audiences. I listened to IHMS broadcast ‘In memory of Sheik Ahmed Abudlahi and others’, and my parents and relatives also talked a lot about his legacy; Sheik Ahmed Abdullahi is like a root – a disdain flower that never sought fame.

Fortunately I came across Sheik Abdulahi’s clipped advices to the Harari Youth in diaspora; and I felt sharing some of his timeless advices with my fellow age mates in diaspora. I am first Canadian generation of Harari Ethiopian descent; With the little Harari language I know, I have tried my best to translated, transliterate and explain his messages; relaying to you in my own ways without losing his core messages. I always believe that sharing is caring. Here you go!

Sheik Ahmed was a link
Between Harar and Hararis in diaspora
Quenched his audience with pure Islamic messages
And, let’s digest his direct messages within ourselves

Said he passionately,
In the name of Allah
The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful
May the young Harari souls abroad
In America and around the globe;
Young boys and girls, adults and the old
Establish and uphold Islam everywhere;

As first Companions of the Prophet
Who established and propagated Islam,
Were young boys, girls and adults alike;
Sayeedina Abubakeri in his thirties,
But, Sayeedina Ali was ten,
Zuber, Telha and others in their teens.

Treasure your forefathers’ Islamic heritages
Acquire Islamic knowledge wherever you are,
You are the unquenched Harari souls
And, the symbol of Harar’s future and flowers;

Said he strikingly,
Your forefathers and foremothers
Engaged in agriculture and cultivated,
Fixed leaking homes,
Helped and fed orphans
Shaved and cleaned the needy
Clothed and sheltered the destitute
Worked as votaries
Took turns and fixed roads
Made Harar an Islamic hill
In the landscape of diverse peoples

Your forefathers and foremothers
Offered charity to orphan homes
Left behind, under Nedeba Kalim
Cash and necessities in needy homes
With left hand not knowing
What the right hand was doing;
With no show off any charity
Only to please the Creator, the Almighty

Tirelessly with afflux of time,
Sheik Ahmed continued with elegance
Said he thoughtfully,
A human being must look after
Parents, close relatives and friends
Should serve humanity selflessly.
Said he exceptionally,
Your parents took care of you
Since your conception
Brought you up to the age of maturity
As they were your endless endowments;
Do not be like wild animals
Neglectful and ignoring your parents;
Show your respect and responsibilities
Obliged are children towards them at all times;
Fulfilling Islamic teaching and obligations;
Beautiful in the sight of Allah all together
With impactful credit in the Hereafter

Be appreciative and grateful
Supplicate for them with gratitude
He who has not appreciated his parents
Never appreciates his Creator;
The wife has to be duty bound to her husband
And equally must be the husband to his wife;
Having dependable rights towards each other;
Only can they fulfil their duties rightfully
If they have acquired Islamic knowledge,
Built on Fear of Allah and the love of His Prophets.

Said he certainly
Before death murmurs
Inevitably knocks at your door
Takes you away forever
From this temporary world;
Articulated he clearly
Human beings are deep asleep;
And, intensely said ‘Wake up’
To serve Allah before your time is up.

Reiterated absolutely,
Quoting the Prophet (PBUH);
A human being wakes up only when he dies;
He regrets why he was immersed in worldly affairs
With selfish duties and chasing material bounties;
He who had not sown and sent beforehand,
In Allah’s ways in this temporary world
Never would he harvest anything in the Hereafter;
And, no way to come back and serve the Creator;

Death takes anyone any time
Infants, the young and the old;
The normal and the abnormal,
The wealthy and the poor,
Wake up to serve Allah, your Creator
To prepare yourself for the Hereafter;

The Sheik continued with his blessings (Du’aa),
May Allah open our hearts
And, help us to understand His messages
Abiding and implementing
To help the needy, the orphan and the helpless
And, serving to please Allah at all times

Never darkness conquered Sheik Ahmed
Remarkably, he left his noble Amana,
Deals and Wills to us, all around

Young Harari souls in diaspora
And, Muslims at large.
You are the dove of peace
And, the continuum of Islam’s messengers
Like the burning candles
Illuminate the footprints of your forefathers;
With manners of your foremothers

Don’t you ever forget,
Where you came from
To us what we call Harari home;
Don’t you ever forget your story.
Your growth is found in your roots
And, your faith is in the One and Only

Positively, Sheik Ahmed,
Appealing to us in devotion
Engage, link and visit Harar
The kingdom of our ancestors;
Wishing us to have undying voices
Islamic voices and natural law of justices;
Cling to our rights and heroic roots
Revive the dwellings of our grand-great parents
The walls of Harar and its surroundings

Resonate our foremothers and forefathers
Full of Islamic knowledge and teachings;
Equipped with the power of charity
In spreading Islamic messages,
Keeping Harar as the source of truth
And, the center of peace and divinity;

Said he continuously
Our forefathers and foremothers
Established the roots of Islam in Harar
And, in the surrounding landscapes.
Do so in your own country respectively;
Involve in your communities voluntarily
Live Islamic live wherever you are
Serve your Creator open heartily;
As you always live and honor
The values, the traditions and the culture of Harar

I hope that you have picked one or two of his messages. Let’s join hands and work together to consolidate Harari Youth Associations worldwide with objectives of upholding Harari values and Islamic traditions.

May Allah reward him Janatul Ferdeous as we continue to pray for him.

Amen. Allahauma Amen
