IHMS COMMENTARY
A World Model for Impulsive Leadership has attacked Ethiopia
Written by Dr. Abdulfetah Khalil Abougn
Ethiopia never failed into the hands of colonialists and its enemies. On October 24, 2020 the darkness of the USA leadership has unexpectedly reached Ethiopia. As the source of world political corona, President Trump has infected the airwaves Africa, in particular transgressing the sovereignty of Ethiopia. Mr. Trump’s irresponsible telephone conversation had also far reaching destructive implications to East Africa. As usual, the morally corrupted US president had endeavored to belittle the ambition of great people of Ethiopia, and Africa at large. His belligerent comment, “Blow up” the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), shamelessly undermines Ethiopia’s independence to develop and sustain its energy needs. His utterance also targeted in undermining negotiations that are set among Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan, chaired by African Union. His disrespect for African leadership is unacceptable and utterly condemned by any political measure. Mr. Trump’s reckless comments were again insults to African Union leadership. His irresponsible telephone conversations had far reaching destructive consequences for developing nations of Africa; however, these three great African nations will mutually resolve their differences under the guardianship of African Union, which is ably and successfully leading the tri-negotiations at the moment.
Though, Mr. Trump had encouraged Egypt to “blow up” the dam, Africans believe that Egyptian leadership cannot fall for such low level promotion and ill-conceived setup. Using force cannot resolve anything except escalating destructions in Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia, and making the horn of Africa a war zone. History witnesses that Ethiopia never bowed for colonialists, and never gave up its freedom. Also, at the moment, cutting any amount financial aid or no force will stop Ethiopia from completing the dam, which has already reached over 75% completion. With high essence of freedom and development, Ethiopian leadership will continue to pursue mutual benefit of the dam for all the nations involved. Ethiopia remains committed to fair and equitable usage of the Nile River for shared economic benefits, and leading Africa to sustainable energy and economic independency.
With rotten imperialistic politics, Mr. Trump’s comments further suggest to remotely destruct, colonize and control these three great African nations. It is always imperialistic ideology, policy and agenda to control resource abound African nations, and their influences in the region. This is exactly why the US authorities usually meddle and want to have political and economic access, power and control in the Horn of Africa. Mr. Trump’s support for Egypt has nothing to do with protecting and developing Egypt; rather by using imperialistic maneuvers, he tries to push his hidden agenda of creating chaos in the region; thereby controlling these progressive African countries. It is, therefore, high time the African leaders to wake up, cooperate and guard against such callous political call and endeavors.
It is the hope of African peoples, particularly, Ethiopians, Egyptians and Sudanese, to stand with their governments, NOT to fall into Mr. Trump’s imperialistic trap and schemes. The negotiations between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia will continue and resolve their insignificant differences amicably for all to benefit! At minimal level, this largest hydroelectric dam in Africa will provide much needed power to the second populous country on continent with 100 million inhabitants who are largely poor. The dam is designed to generate over 6000 megawatts power with plans also to distribute electricity to Sudan, South Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda and other East Africa nations.
The renewed Colonialists’ destruction guide, “Sanctions” or “Cut financial Aid” to “divide and rule” is no longer applicable in some developing countries. Africans know it well that Mr. Trump’s deceptive controlling tactics and inciting confrontations are completely designed to create hostility, social injustice and unhealthy political environment to further underdevelopment in Africa.
Mind you. In the last four years, the US has lost its dignity and integrity around the world because of incapable political authorities with self-centered development agenda. In the last four years, unprecedented social turmoil, injustice, racism and inequities have widely spread globally. Much of Trump’s self-proven footprints, legacy and historical records will be hypocrisy, arrogance, racism, xenophobia, as well as, examples are abound to show his complete ignorance when it comes to developing nations.
The world has to move beyond such inhumane and low level leadership. With all compiled human and environmental problems, the world desperately needs leaders with humanity at their core so that humans can equitably and justly survive. The US and the World deserve well-informed and respectful world leaders, who can empower others, as well as pursue justice, respect, rights, peace and prosperity around the globe.
Mr. Trump, our message to you is simple and clear. Ethiopia has always kept its Freedom untampered, and it will also keep its Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam intact!
